A new fiscal year is starting today, April 1st 2014. It will end March 31, 2015. In Japan, it will be known as “Heisei 26 Nendo”, the 26th business year of the Heisei era that started in 1989.
Economically wise, this year will be remembered for the first rise in the sales tax in 17 years, the consumption tax climbing from 5 to 8%.
Karate wise, next to the yearly events and tournaments (see the list here), this fiscal year in Okinawa should see mainly 6 huge events happening in Okinawa : the 2nd Okinawa Traditional Karate and Kobudo Worldwide Seminar (July 14-19), the Okinawa Shorin-ryu World Tournament (August 2-3), the Karate 1- Premier League Okinawa Tournament (August 29-31), the 10th commemoration of the Day of Karate in Okinawa (October 25), the Memorial Karate-Do Seminar and Exchange Demonstration 2014 for Soke Takayoshi Nagamine (October 31 - November 2) and the beginning of the construction of the Karatedo Hall (Fall). According to the Government, the hall should open by March 2016.
Regarding our karate bureau’s activities, during the 3 first months of 2014 prior to this new fiscal year, we have helped so far 15 people from Australia, France, Germany, Italia, Japan, New Zealand, Poland and the USA so that they could train in Okinawan dojo. While it is not much, it is more than double compared to last year’s number of visitors for this period. More than 60 more people have request our support for the coming months. And the number is growing almost every day! Therefore, if you plan a tour in Okinawa and would like us to help you, contact us as early as possible.
Finally, we hope you will understand that we are a volunteer organization with no financial support yet from the Okinawa Prefecture Government, therefore, your cooperation and donations are welcome and will help us keep supporting the Okinawa Karate world. Thank you for your generosity.
