Ishikawa Seitoku sensei, Hanshi 10th dan passed away due to a myocardial infarction on September 10, 2013. He was 88 years old. One of the last true Shurite master, he was recently recognized as Intangible Cultural Asset holder in the Field of Okinawa Karate and Kobujutsu by the Okinawa Prefecture.
Born in 1925 in Shuri, he first learned karate from Gusukuma Shinpan sensei and then Chibana Choshin sensei, Shimabukuro Taro sensei and many other famous masters. He opened his first dojo in 1961, after 23 years of practice. His dojo was then called “Shuri Sanka Dojo”. He later moved to Kume where he built his present dojo, the Ryubukan. During the course of his life, Ishikawa sensei held many important posts such as Okinawa Prefecture Karatedo Federation president and Okinawa Shorin-ryu Karatedo Association president. A successful businessman, he was also the founder of the taxi company “Maruboshi”.
