The “Okinawa Traditional Karate Liaison Bureau (OTKLB)” was a project nurtured in April 2011 and started in July 2011. It received the support of the Okinawa Prefecture Government by being funded as an “Okinawa Prefecture Culture and Arts Promotion – Industry Creation Support Project”. This website was launched in November 2011.

The original goals of OTKLB are as follow:
  1. Liaison bureau activities
  2. Multilingual information diffusion and networking
  3. Training programs development and management
  4. Karate related projects for kids and international exchange projects
  5. Promotion for a better karate understanding within Okinawa
  6. Supporting the nurturing of international level instructors

In between January 2012 and April 2017, OTKLB has supported 726 people from more than 40 countries. This represents a total of 350 projects and requests.

  2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 Total
People 21 78 134 168 220 105 726
Projects 21 34 71 98 87 39 350

To achieve this, 62 dojo and instructors have supported our activities and welcome and taught visitors. We would like to thank them for their support.

In March 2017, following the opening of the Okinawa Karate Kaikan, the Okinawa Prefecture Government established the “Okinawa Karate Information Center (OKIC)” in May 2017 within the walls of the said facility.

Supervised by the Okinawa Prefecture Government Karate promotion division, this center is managed by the Okinawa Dento Karatedo Shinkokai.

From now on, the “Okinawa Karate Information Center (OKIC)” will be handling inquiries regarding Okinawa karate, requests for training in Okinawa and promotion of Okinawa karate and kobudo among others.
